CALL DESCRIPTION

1. Grant Title
Advancing Paediatric Care Through Research: Research Grant for GICHR PCCN & PNT Students

Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital – Research Department

3. Background & Purpose
As a leading Paediatric referral hospital, we are committed to fostering research that enhances evidence-based care in paediatric. This grant aims to support Paediatric Critical Care Nursing (PCCN) and Paediatric Nurse Trainees (PNT) students from the Gertrude’s Institute of Child Health and Research (GICHR) in conducting research that improves clinical outcomes for children. The funded projects should contribute to best practices, innovative interventions, or policy improvements in paediatric healthcare.

4. Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
 Be currently enrolled in a Paediatric Critical Care Nursing (PCCN) or Paediatric Nurse Training (PNT) program at the Gertrude’s Institute of Child Health and Research.
 Be affiliated with a recognized institution in the country where the research project will be implemented.
 Have a faculty or clinical supervisor or mentor supporting their research at GICHR.

6. Funding Amount & Duration
 Grant Amount: Up to a maximum of Ksh. 250,000 per research project.
 Duration: Research projects must be completed within 12 months from the award date.

7. Application Process

8. Required Documents
 Research Proposal (Max 10 Pages) – Clear research objectives, methodology, expected impact.
 Budget Breakdown – Itemized research costs with justifications.
 Applicant CV – Highlighting relevant academic and research experience.
 Letter of Institutional Endorsement – From the applicant’s institution confirming support (GICHR) and mentorship.

 Mentor/Supervisor Support Letter – Confirming research guidance.

9. Selection Criteria
Applications will be evaluated based on:
 Scientific Merit: Clarity, feasibility, and originality of research proposal.
 Impact: Potential contribution to paediatric care and hospital policy.
 Feasibility: Realistic project timeline and budget.
 Relevance: Alignment with Priority Research Areas.

10. Key Dates
Application Deadline: 11th July 2025
Review Process: 14th July to 1st August 2025
Award Announcement: 18th August 2025
Project Start Date: 22st September 2025

12. Additional Notes
🔹 Ethical Compliance: All research must adhere to ethical guidelines and receive IRB approval before data collection. All principal investigators will be required to undertake the Research Ethics and Good Clinical Practice trainings upon the grant award.
🔹 Reporting Requirements: Awardees will be required to submit 6-monthly progress reports and a final research summary.
🔹 Publication & Dissemination: Recipients are encouraged to present their findings at Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital Research Symposium and submit for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
